Free swimming in Wales too please!
It has just been announced that there will be FREE swimming at least for the over 60’s in England by the time the 2012 Olympics start in London.
What about Wales? Come on Rhodri, get your bathers out!
It is well known that swimming is one of the best forms of exercise you can take. It is beneficial to muscle groups throughout the body and great for the heart too. So if the nanny state wants us to stay healthy well into old age then it has to stump up the cash too.
Barry has a famous olympic swimmer in its mists; David Davies. He is successful however, despite the efforts of local councils unwilling to maintain its pools to the highest standards. The replacement Cardiff Empire Pool was so late in delivery that David had to travel back and forth to Swansea every day in order to train in a 50m pool.
There should be many more pools in this country and the efforts of the Government to offer free swimming in England are welcome. In Wales we have a free summer swimming scheme for schoolchildren but I for one would like to see this extended to everyone.
