Barry Island Hotel Needed
I have written about this issue before: Barry Island needs a hotel now.

With the ‘credit crunch’ being talked-up all the time and the general air of gloom and doom, people are seriously looking to holiday at home this year and many UK resorts have seen a boom in bookings. Why not Barry Island? Because there’s nowhere to stay!
Despite the poor weather so far this year Barry island has a lot to offer holidaymakers. The beach can be enjoyed come rain or shine, there are plenty of scenic walks both on the Island itself and along the coast east and west. There is still some semblance of a fairground and the new mini-golf on the esplanade is really well laid out. Chip shops, gift shops, cafes and ice cream parlours are still doing brisk business. The bustling city of Cardiff is less than 20 minutes away by train and there are many tourist attractions within 20 miles, some even have free entry like the Museum of Welsh Life at St.Fagans.
In short, there is opportunity here.

There is a propensity for sprawling caravan parks in Wales but the local council should avoid this unsightly intrusion on our natural landscape. They have allowed far too much housing already and it is now time to seriously promote tourism once again.
I feel it is high time that the council seriously pursued a hotel developer to regenerate the eastern corner of the seafront using whats left of the old Barry Island Butlins site, knock down the old toilet block and build something both visually attractive and provide much needed overnight accommodation.
