Radio 1 - Good for Barry

Last week Friday 25 July Radio 1 came to Barry Island.

What a great event and a good news story for Barry Island and the town itself. The host DJ Scott Mills seemed to have a great time and so did the visiting celebrities like Ruth Jones, creator of Gavin and Stacy.

It is well known that any publicity even negative publicity is good publicity. Thankfully things went well for Radio 1 and the town was painted in a good light. A large crowd gathered for the proceedings and shopkeepers I know had a bumper days trading.

I am old enough to recall the days of the old Radio 1 roadshow especially their visits to Barry island. Peter Powell hosted a show on the fairground one year supported by the regular crew: ‘Smily Miley’ et al.

To boost tourism in the town more of these events should be held and encouraged.
